Is being a vocalist a natural skill,or is it something that can be developed by way of vocal training.

There are those who are naturally endowed with vocal abilities and instrument skills with out training. But as with all abilities they are limited due to width of knowledge & experience. Most people start with mimicking others until they find their own style. But to reach those notes out of their range needs precise targeting of technique. Regardless of ability & chosen instrument (as at the end of the day a vocal chord is an instrument) gaining a little training can only help in protection from injury if done correctly under supervision. More importantly a vocalists placement and use of the tongue in-relation to their palette and vocal box will give a distinctive sound aiding in their individual recognition. A good speech therapist will be able to couch you in specific sounds and techniques. As with all instruction of technique you have to get on with the individual teaching you. Hope this helps. dB, www.dbcreations.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
